14 Years Later, Poorna Jagannathan Calls Delhi Belly A ‘Genius Film’

Delhi Belly considered an out-of-the-box film upon release, has completed 14 years. The film, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, was directed by Abhinay Deo and explored a chaotic and realistic representation of urban life in Delhi, diving into themes of friendship, stupid decisions, and misadventures. Poorna Jagannathan, who was an integral part of the movie, also marked the occasion, revisiting some old memories.
Poorna shared a poster of Delhi Belly along with some stills of herself and other characters from the film. Alongside these images, she wrote, “14 years since this genius film, #DelhiBelly, came out ! Hands down, still one of my favourite films. Pretty sure you can see it on @netflix still. It was a miracle it got made, a miracle it was released and a miracle it broke box office records. Written by brilliant #akshatverma, directed by #abhinaydeo and produced by the one and only @aamirkhanproductions @raodyness Music by @ramsampathofficial. Also, how lucky that I met my lifelong friend on it – @shenaztreasury who is an inspiration to me.”

Many fans of the film also expressed how much they loved it. One of them said, “Watched it thrice in the hall. And enjoyed it every time,” while another person wrote, “They don’t make ‘em like this anymore.”

Earlier, Vir Das, who was also part, shared a small clip from the film. Taking to Instagram, the actor shared a humorous scene from the film in which he appears as a “21st-century man” interrupting a wedding, saying that he and the girl had a sexual relationship previously. Sharing this unusual comedy moment, Vir remarked, “14 years ago today, Delhi Belly was released, and I was a 21st-century man. #Delhibelly.”
Delhi Belly, which was released in 2011, aroused various concerns owing to its use of dark comedy and a casual approach to sex, violence, and profane language. Despite initial criticism, the picture has become a cult favourite. Delhi Belly follows three roommates, Tashi (Imraan Khan), Nitin (Kunaal Roy Kapur), and Arup (Vir Das), who unintentionally become the target of a prominent mafia after misplacing valuable gems.
